Occipitofrontalis

Massage for Headaces
Massage for Headaches

This muscle is actually made up of three muscle groups:

Frontalis – which starts at the eye brow bone, over the forehead and connects to the Galea Aponeurotica
Galea Aponeurotica – a tendinous sheet of connective tissue that lies over the skull from front to back.
Occipitalis – which connects to the Galea Aponeurotica to the back of back of the head.
These muscles help with facial expressions, raising the eyebrow and wrinkles the forehead (so ladies, we need to ensure these muscles are relaxed!).

Tightness through these muscles produces an overall sense of tightness in the scalp and can cause headaches especially through the back and top of the head and eye region.  While massage through this area can be a little painful at first, once the muscles are loosened off, headaches are reduced or eliminated and a sense of ease and well being can be enjoyed.
