Bowen Therapy

Bowen therapy is a ‘hands on/hands off’ body technique that can help the body correct dysfunctions and restore balance on a holistic level.  Bowen Therapy can be an effective form of treatment for specific complaints such as neck, back or shoulder pain, headaches, muscle soreness, or pregnancy pain and can also be used for stress management and relaxation

What to Expect
A Bowen treatment lasts about 45-60 minutes.  Most of the work can be done through light clothing.  No oils are used.

During a Bowen session, the practitioner uses thumbs and fingers to make rolling type moves on different muscles on the body.   There are times when the therapist actually moves away from you or leaves the room, so your body has time to make its own adjustments, which help relieve tension and reduce pain.

Many people experience pain relief after just one session, however two or three treatments are usually enough to achieve long-lasting relief.  The ideal situation is to give the Bowen Therapy a try for 3 sessions, once per week, without having any other kind of bodywork in between.

After Your Session
WALK:    at least 20 minutes a day, for the next 7 days,  starting right after your session. This will help move the pain out of your body.  On the day of your treatment, avoid extreme heat or cold and heavy lifting for the rest of the day, but do not sit for too long.  Get up every 30 minutes or so and walk around a bit. When you are getting up, put weight on BOTH FEET when you stand up, get out of bed, a chair or a car.  This will help bring balance back into your body.

WATER:  drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water per day for the next 7 days to help flush the toxins out of your body

WAIT:  one week before you have any kind of body work.
